Sandor Szazs Studio is pleased to announce the opening of another solo exhibition “Twilight of Mages” at Kalman Maklary Fine Arts, Budapest, Hungary.
Curated by Art Historian János Schneller, the show features a number of large photomontages in the classical tradition in both technique and visual expression that can be traced back to works by great figures of Hungarian fine art – such as Lajos Vajda, László Moholy-Nagy or Endre Bálint – who, within the art historical context of Hungary, pioneered the application of picture magazines, newspapers and self-taken photos in their collages.
Although the forms rise from the realm of Surrealism, in their case the narratives do not emerge from consciousness or imagination. Rather, they are prophecies of a dystopian future, rooted in the events of the present and recent past.
These collages created between the fall of 2019 and spring of 2020 link through a number of strands to his earlier, moderate colored, single- or two-hued canvases – through their compositions, colors and atmospheres.
“Twilight of Mages” is expected run until the 13th of November 2020 at Kalman Maklary Fine Arts, Budapest
